Troubleshooting Guidelines
If there is a problem accessing an FC-AL device connected to the hub, the
source of the problem can be the FC-AL device, the hub, the host, or any of
the connections between the host and device. See the Compaq StorageWorks
Fibre Channel Troubleshooting Guide to troubleshoot the loop. Use this
chapter to troubleshoot the hub.
You can follow the steps outlined below to investigate the problem from the
most likely to the least likely cause.
1. Inspect the cabling between the hub and attached FC-AL devices. Check
for loose, dirty, broken, or bent cabling and connectors. Cables should
latch into position with an audible “click.”
2. Inspect the hub LED indicators for apparent problems. See the next
section, “Troubleshooting with the LEDs and the Reset Button.”
3. Check the GBIC Modules to ensure they are inserted properly.
4. Make sure that both ends of each Fibre Channel cable are connected to
active, powered, FC-AL devices.
